Hi I’m Babs, a UK based money blogger. I’m a 30 something mum to two gorgeous boys and 2 and 3! Life is hectic and I love every minute of it.
This blog originated from a desire to change my life; at the time of starting the blog I was working part time as a Human Resources Manager, which I’d been doing for the past 8 years I wasn’t enjoying it, I felt trapped but didn’t know what to do about it. I’ve never really felt like I belonged in the Corporate world but it was what you did, go to school, go to University and then get a good job, there was no other path that I could see.
I’ve always been good with money, always been a saver rather than a spender and always pursuing some sort of of side hustle or money saving venture. After reading blogs for probably few years I began wondering whether it was something that I could actually make a living from, I began blogging just before returning to work from maternity leave after my second baby with the idea that if I could possibly make a part time income from blogging and other “side hustles” then I would have the confidence to leave my job and focus on working from home on these income streams.
However, life has a funny way of pushing you in the right direction, as a couple of weeks after returning to work, I was made redundant. After the initial shock, I realised that actually this is a good thing, it was a wake up call, things needed to change and here was the perfect opportunity to do just that.
It meant however that this blog was neglected somewhat as I focused on other income streams that generated more instant money. Now that I’m managed to make enough to keep me afloat until the end of the year I feel that I can justify focusing more on this blog again.
I hope to be able to continue working for myself, by growing my current income streams and being on the look out for new ones. I’m sure it’s not going to be easy, I’m sure I’ll be doubting myself along the way, I’m sure I’ll have a few low moments, I know I’ll be working a lot more hours than I was when was employed… but I’m prepared for them! I’m following my dreams and passions and building my best life!
The Savvy Penny is a place to share my thoughts and things I’ve learnt about frugal living, personal finance, making money and lifestyle ideas as I explore ways to make and save money and live better for less. I’ll be focusing on money making streams that I’ve followed over the last few months as well as providing frugal tips and money saving ideas to inspire you to be intentional with your finances and take control of your money.
Life is a great gift and if you’re not happy with something change it! I’ll leave you with one of my favourite quotes!
“There is freedom waiting for you on the breezes of the sky, and you ask “What if I fall?”
Oh but my darling, What if you fly?” Erin Hanson
